General:
Weak annual herb, rooting nodally; stems ascending or erect, freely branching, 2-6 cm tall, glabrous.

Leaves:
Opposite, entire, succulent, oblong egg-shaped, 1.5-3 mm long.

Flowers:
Inflorescence of flower clusters in the leaf axils; flowers usually 4-merous, greenish, short-stalked but lengthening in fruit; calyces cup-shaped; petals no longer than the sepals, whitish.

Fruits:
Follicles, less than 2 mm long, purplish, 1-2 seeded.

Habitat / Range

Wet to moist vernal pools on coastal bluffs in the lowland zone; rare on S Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands; S to AZ, CA and MX, Chile.
